FAQs
Who can apply?
Women and gender-non binary people are welcome to apply. This program is open to both developers and non-technical creators. No exposure to code is required and mentors will be on hand to speed your learning in a desired area.
Do participants need to have a pre-existing project?
No, but it will help to have ideas for projects that you want to tackle during the program.
Do participants need to live in the Bay Area?
The program is designed with many technologies and experiences that still (for now) need to be experienced in person. Therefore presence in the Bay Area for the summer is a requirement for full participation. This is an initial prototype of a program starting in San Francisco that we hope can be utilized in other locations across the world.
The timing conflicts with my school/work calendar, is it still worth applying?
Yes! We understand that summer timing can be difficult. If it’s a matter of a week or two on either end, please apply and indicate your constraints on your application.
Does it cost anything to participate?
There is no tuition or materials costs that need to be paid by participants.
Is there a paid stipend for participation?
This project is designed as a free collaboration and development resource, not a paid residency. Your projects and your ideas are your own before, during and after your participation. However, if you face financial hardships with transit or other expenses of participating, please bring that up in your application. Help may be available. There are also opportunities to extend project work past the summer with other Mozilla programs.
What are the time expectations of participants over the 14 weeks?
We encourage participants to set aside at least 5-10 hours per week to participate and encourage 10-20+ to get the most out of the experience.
What are some other ways to get involved besides participating?
Please indicate on the XR studio site commenting system if you would like to be involved in other ways, such as volunteering, mentoring, or supporting this project with equipment or funds.
I don’t live in the Bay Area but I really want to be a part of this! How can I take part?
We really need to hear from you! What would be an ideal experience in your environment? What parts of this experience do you wish you had in your area?
